[edit] Summary

[edit] Teaser

The League of Non-Aligned Worlds is in session, with the Narn and the Centauri debating Quadrant 37. Londo is arguing that the quadrant is neutral by virtue of a treaty between the two races; therefore Centauri ships may pass through the region. G'Kar insists that the treaty was signed "under duress" and is therefore not binding on the Narn, giving the space to the Narn and disallowing the transit of Centauri ships. When the Narn fleet buildup on the edge of Centauri space is questioned, G'Kar takes exception and declares he will return to the council when they are ready to discuss things in a "civilized fashion."

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the station, a wounded man, Stephen Petrov, comes to Garibaldi and warns that "they're going to kill him." He falls unconscious before he can tell Garibaldi who would be killed.

[edit] Memorable quotes

"Vir, how many gods are there in our Pantheon? I lost count since the last emperor was elevated to godhood."
"Fourty-eight..no fourty-nine, ahhh fifty if you count Zoog but I never..."
"Alright! Let's say fifty. Now out of that fifty, how many gods must I have offended to have ended up with G'kar's teeth so embedded into my throat, that I can barely breathe?"
"All of them?"
"Sounds right."

[edit] Arc significance

  • Throughout Season 1, questions have been raised about what happened to Commander Sinclair at the Battle of the Line. While these questions have not yet been completely answered (that he carries the soul of Valen, revealing that some humans contain Minbari souls and therefore Minbari have been killing Minbari), Delenn offers him the chance to get at least a partial answer to this question.
  • Londo's association with Mr. Morden and his "associates" (the Shadows) begins to affect events in the universe. This is not the first time the Shadows have acted on Londo's behalf (that was when they recovered the Eye from raiders), it is the first time their actions on his behalf have significantly impacted events among the races. Some begin to suspect that a mysterious force is behind this.
  • The assassination of President Santiago (and the subsequent rise of Morgan Clark) removes one of the major obstacles to Clark's (and possibly the Psi Corps or other forces on or away from Earth) plans, which have been in motion since the beginning of this season with groups such as Homeguard rising up in opposition to "alien influences" on Earth. It is clear how far Clark's influence already reaches when Earth Alliance personnel refuse to even consider the possibility that the explosion of Earthforce One was due to sabotage. The newly-appointed president sets a tone completely opposite his predecessor by declaring that Earth's focus should be on Earth, not on relations with other races.
