Dius Vintari was the son of the late Emperor Cartagia and Prince Regent of the Centauri Republic.[1]

Vintari resented the fact that his life was so difficult to live due to the actions of his father and had an intense hatred towards his fathers killer; Vir Cotto who was rumoured to have killed Cartagia.
He had a love of studying the technology of other races and knew a great deal about the fighters of other governments which included the Starfury used by the Earth Alliance which he always wished to pilot.
Vintari was quite capable of manipulating and using people for his goals but never knew true kindness due to the nature of politics within the Royal Court. In his mind, those that gave something often expected something in return.
Before meeting President Sheridan on the 10th Anniversary of the Interstellar Alliance, Dius faced a number of dreams one of which showed him leading an armada of warships against his enemies and another where he met Sheridan on a Starfury where something wondrous happened.

Dius Vintari's father was assassinated by Vir Cotto during the Second Shadow war. Vintari had to endure death threats as the third in line to the throne and heir to an infamous ruler whose madness had brought Centauri Prime close to destruction.
In 2271 Vintari met and piloted a starfury alongside John Sheridan. Sheridan and Vintari begin a friendship after this encounter. Vintari accepts Sheridan's offer to return to Minbar with to stay with him and his family and avoid his enemies.

According to Galen, Vintari will become Emperor of the Centauri Republic in 2291 after Vir Cotto. If history continues as Galen foresees it, Vintari will execute a program of expansionism which he feels will be hampered by Earth as they are the only race who have stopped the Centauri before. To eliminate the threat, Vintari will launch a full scale attack on Earth, decimating the planet ten years after taking the throne.

- Dius's status and parentage at first glance appears to contradict previous continuity. When Cartagia died in "Into the Fire," it was specifically stated that he "had no heir" and that "there was no clear line of succession." However, Cartagia could have produced an heir without it being common knowledge as it's unclear if illegitimate Centauri are considered to be suitable to inherit.
