The Drakh attack on Earth began the war between the Interstellar Alliance and the Drakh, homeworld-less former servants of the Shadows who followed in the footsteps of their former masters and sought revenge for their defeat and the destruction of Z'ha'dum.

History[]

Interstellar Alliance president John Sheridan took command of the Excalibur and Victory and based on visions provided by Galen took the ships on a course for Earth, believing an eminent threat was soon to befall the planet. His concerns were only deepened after he saw the destruction on Daltron 7 and then the Death Cloud that caused the destruction.

En route, Sheridan contacted Earth to warn them of the coming attack and to scramble as many ships as possible to defend against the coming enemy.

Despite the fact than General Yuri Mikhailovich Denisov first believes this mobilization to be merely a training exercise, at least 34 Omega-Class Destroyers were waiting around Earth when Excalibur and Victory arrived. Soon, the Drakh arrived with their battle fleet, with at least 67 cruisers. By the time the battle began, many Earthforce vessels have arrived along with ships of the other member races of the Interstellar Alliance.

All defending units covered the Victory and Excalibur as it charged to the Death Cloud Core. The Victory, already damaged in the battle, was destroyed sacrificing itself by ramming the Death Cloud's main control system segment.

The core's destruction had fatal consequences for the Drakh: The Cloud's main structure closed on himself, trapping and destroying much of the Drakh warships. The Excalibur and his last escorts, however, barely managed to escape.

Despite defeating the Drakh Sheridan's fleet was unable to prevent the Drakh from reaching Earth's atmosphere. Despite the defense of Aegis orbital defense platforms, who downed several Drakh ships, the rest managed to release the Drakh plague into Earth, infecting everyone on it. The If a cure was not found, the plague would destroy all life on the planet.[2]

After the Battle[]

At least one of the Drakh cruisers than fled from the attack was pursued and downed by the EAS Persephone, probably one of those who was fighting in the Earth.

The starship Excalibur's crew eventually managed to find a cure for the Plague before the five years finished.
